ASR has commissioned ACIL Tasman to undertake a scoping and feasibility study for a Services Roadmap, see terms of reference below. As well as providing useful results in time for the 17 March Services Summit in Parliament House, the study aims to establish the business case for improving services trade and innovation statistics in a number of specific areas. ACIL Tasman has been appointed to undertake the study. A document outlining ACIL Tasman’s approach to the study is here (link to pdf).

TERMS OF REFERENCE SERVICES ROADMAP –FEASIBILITY AND SCOPING STUDY
A short feasibility and scoping study for a Services Roadmap is proposed (around three-months).
The objective of the Roadmap is to build an information base on services commercialisation and internationalisation that will help realise the vision of Australia as a regional high value-added services centre.
The scoping and feasibility study will examine information needs to further opportunities in:
Tourism – including knowledge-based tourism
Education services
Resource (including mining services) and agricultural services
Engineering services
The Built Environment
Health and wellbeing services
Financial services
IT, Telecommunications and Broadband applications
Business and Professional Services
Distribution services
Transport and logistics services
Resource (including mining services) and agricultural services
Clean Energy and environment
Culture, entertainment and media
Australia has a good set of official statistics and the extent to which these can be used, including by data mining via consultancies will be considered in the feasibility study, as will the possibility of supplementing these with business data. It is also recognised that in many areas there are specialist groups working on commercialisation, trade and investment opportunities, eg the Built Environment Innovation Council and the Information Technology Innovation Council. The scoping and feasibility study will consult with such groups to identify information gaps that might systematically addressed through the Services Roadmap.
